Good exposures of upper Palaeozoic fossiliferous strata are accessible in the Hotan area, at the southwestern border of the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of Northwest China. Significant collections of fossil-plant remains belonging to various taxa were recorded from several horizons located in the Qislaf (Upper Devonian), the Kalawuyi (Upper Carboniferous), and the Tahaqi (uppermost Carboniferouslowermost Permian) Formations. The indisputable presence of the genus Paripteris GOTHAN, together with various taxa of Euramerican affinities, in association with taxa commonly reported from the North China Block, reinforces previous conclusions concerning some land connections during Carboniferous times, and the probable migration routes of some Carboniferous pteridosperms.
