Abstract Data on the anatomy of two species of the genus Odostomella and one species of the genus Herviera are presented. A phylogenetic analysis of the relationship between these and a number of other pyramidellid species is carried out using anatomy and shell morphology. The subfamily Odostomellinae is defined in terms of phylogenetic taxonomy sensu de Queiroz & Gauthier (1990). The genus Rugadentia is discussed, and a list of the members of Odostomella, Rugadentia and Heruiera, compiled from literature is presented. The type material of included species has been examined and is listed. Odostomella knudseni sp. n. is described from Viet Nam.
