In [9] James determined the modular characters, the decomposition and the Cartan matrices of the Mathieu groups. It is the aim of this paper to describe the vertices and Green correspondents of the simple modules ofM12over a field of characteristic 2. It turns out that the defect groups of the blocks are also the vertices of the simple modules in these blocks. Furthermore there is a simple module with a Green correspondent whose socle is not multiplicity free.
