The author traces the initial development and following decline of comparative psychology in the US Types of animals studied and types of behavior studied are shown in three graphs. The attitude of American psychologists toward comparative psychology is discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of concentration are pointed out. The author shows the potential returns from the comparative approach.
