Carbon micro-coils were obtained by the Ni-catalyzed pyrolysis of acetylene at 770°C using a rotating substrate. The effects of the rotating speed on the coil yield, morphology and chirality of the grown carbon coils were examined. The coil yield decreased by 35–50% due to the substrate rotation of 180 rpm and irregular carbon coils were obtained, while regular coils were obtained without rotation. The carbon coils with a selective chirality could not be obtained.
