The data considered relate to 4,262 Illnesses and over 31,000 respiratory or fecal specimens, the testing of which yielded about 1,200 identified viral isolates derived from nearly 700 infections. Since appropriately timed serum specimens of suitable quality were rarely obtained, serologic aid in relating illness to infection was minimal and both detection and timing of infections depended on observation of viral excretion. Results are examined by major virus group only at this time. Possibly related illness occurred in 50% of all infections, varying from 43% for adeno and enteroviruses to 71% for rhino-viruses. Certain clinical features of Infection associated illnesses were noted including fever with adeno and coxsackieviruses and nasal symptoms with rhinoviruses.
