†‡ Quality assurance methods for wind tunnel data certification involve analysis of the data repeatability between matching test conditions. Wind tunnel test customers commit varying amounts of resources to characterize the repeatability of their data, anticipating that the results will approach instrumentation precision. A timely analysis of the repeat data is necessary to verify that data acquisition methods are optimized during the costly test period. The purpose of this paper is to describe an automated and standardized approach to the repeatability analysis developed for customers of the Propulsion Wind Tunnel (PWT) Facility at the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC). The approach minimizes user input requirements while allowing the necessary flexibility for an optimum report of the results. When appropriate, the repeatability values of the desired dependent data parameter (e.g., drag coefficient) can be determined for a specified range of independent data parameter (e.g., angle of attack). The methodology automatically archives the repeatability data as the test progresses. A standard report of the available information is generated when desired by the user. A methodology for defining the Standard Deviation of repeat data is presented in the report. Optional graphical hypothesis testing can be applied to the results and used to identify potentially inappropriate data samples. Suspect data runs can be deleted from the repeatability analysis when deemed appropriate. Results from two wind tunnel test examples are reviewed to clarify descriptions presented in this paper.
