These groups of compounds were isolated by preparative liquid chromatography on sulphopolystyrene cation-exchange resin and on silica gel, from the water-soluble part of the butanol-soluble fraction of an ethanol:water (4:1) extract. Compounds isolated were: sucrose, smallcap~D-fructose and smallcap~D-glucose; mannitol and myo-inositol; ethyl beta-smallcap~D-glucopyranoside and ethyl beta-smallcap~D-fructopyranoside.
