Uridine diphosphate glucose (UDPG) acts as a coenzyme in the catalytic transformation of galactose-1-phosphate into glucose-1-phosphate by an enzyme of Saccharomyces fragilis. Incubation of UDPG with the enzyme leads to the formation of 25% of uridine diphosphate galactose. On treatment with alkali the UDPG decomposes into uridylic acid and glucose-1,2-monophosphate.
