A.abr.
This is a revised English version of an original French paper read at the European Congress of the Econometric Society, 1968. It reviews the results of investigations appraising several well known decision criteria under imperfect knowledge. (Maximizing average income,Freund-Markowitzcriterion, safety first programme, chance constraint, focus-loss constraint, game against nature.) Two main ideas are outlined: (1) On a theoretical plane the experiments carried out support the opinion that a model such asFreund'sis not sufficiently tested unless the possibilities range that was offered to the represented decision maker is as large as possible, and makes allowance for any decision possibility in connection with the decision at hand. Related to this and especially characteristic is the fact that the separation between indebtedness risk-linked and unlinked models is possible only when land acquisition is allowed. (2) The practical counterpart of that theoretical finding is the necessity to develop the use of risk aversion coefficients carefully before applying any risk decision criterion, and the comparatively small impontance of the choice of one criterion among those proposed, if this linkage is suitably expressed. However, such results have been yielded by only one rather crude experiment. Consequently, they have to be corroborated before any generalization. Further experiments must be undertaken for this purpose, and the main lesson to be drawn from the present research is perhaps an interest in pursuing efforts in that direction. A. abr.
