It has been evaluated by calculation and analysis with one-dimensional mathematic model of the reservoir sediment deposition that the sediment deposition volume in the Three Gorges reservoir could be decreased by some 3. 7 billion t when jointly operating for 50 years with the prospective Xiluodu project, compared with that without the later project, with an remarkable effect especially on deposition reduction within the backwater change zone and water level fall down of at least 1. 5 m or so along the river stretch of downtown of the Chongqing at various flood frequencies.
