We study the modification of the photoelectron and metastable quenching spectra of trans-polyacetylene caused by doping with potassium in an ultrahigh-vacuum system. We find that the addition of potassium enhances and shifts the \ensuremath{\sigma}-band peak and creates a new peak at the Fermi level which seems to originate from an orbital localized around the potassium atoms.
