High-speed arc-sprayed FeNiCrAl coatings are a surface abrasion protection material for shaft parts. To conduct in-depth research on the frictional and wear performance of FeNiCrAl coatings, the 3Cr13 coating is selected for comparison to perform friction tests using an MM-200 friction and wear tester under different friction conditions (dry friction and oil-lubricated conditions) and friction speeds (0.42 m/s and 0.84 m/s). The variations of the friction coefficients and the friction surface morphology patterns of the two types of coatings are analyzed using an X-ray diffractometer, a hardness tester, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that under identical friction conditions, the friction coefficient of the 3Cr13 coating is approximately two times higher than that of the FeNiCrAl coating; the wear volume loss of the 3Cr13 coating also far exceeds that of the FeNiCrAl coating. The FeNiCrAl coating has a superior abrasion performance because a dense film of iron oxide, Fe3Al and Al2O3 forms on the friction surface. The FeNiCrAl coating has superior hardness, and it covers the friction surface to improve the coating abrasion performance.
