The pharmaceutical industry is going through continuous change, and it is only by adapting to change that it can survive and improve. Enormous pressure to deliver new and successful drugs to the market is impacting the research process. New strategies and innovative solutions on all fronts are needed to improve and speed the journey from early discovery to production.In the discovery synthetic chemistry arena there has been a change in approach and mentality in the past few years: fewer compounds are being made, and design is more focused, aided by computational techniques and data analysis tools. As a result, synthetic chemists are being asked to deliver target compounds more quickly and at the same time via a synthetic route capable of delivering rapid resynthesis and supporting subsequent scaleup. Besides, they are also being asked to expand the accessible chemical space for designers.
