The disease caused byTomato zonate spot virus(TZSV), transmitted byFrankliniella occidentalisin a circulative-propagative manner, results in significant loss in production and quality in ornamentals and vegetable crops. Related to this recently foundtospovirus(TZSV), knowledge involving the interaction between virus, vector, and host plants remains unknown. In this study, we investigated the effects of TZSV infection on the changes in concentration of the plant hormones jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA), and the transcriptional regulation of JA- and SA-associated genes. Additionally, we verified that JA and SA inhibit the fitness of the vectorF. occidentalis. This work brings to a new perspective on plant—virus–vector interactions is proposed, which could be applied to control the TZSV infection.
