Most ceils in the imtnune system are influenced in their reactivities by other cells and molecules. Therefore the analysis of functions, ie the measureable result of a given reactivity, frequently involves other cells or molecules produced by other cells. It is also known that cells of a certain functional lineage, eg B-cells, do change with differentiation in terms of surface structures as well as susceptibility to regulatory agents.Recently developed techniques for cloning of normal T cells allows for the functional analysis of some of the individual parameters involved in T cell stimulation. It is the purpose of this paper to describe the cellular requirements for the production of T cell growth stimulating factors (TCGF) and to determine the role of these factors in T cell stimulation.
