The use of IHC as a surrogate for specific underlying genomic alterations has allowed for increasingly comprehensive and accurate diagnosis of small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC). This is especially relevant in light of the increasing recognition of the biologic heterogeneity of this aggressive and difficult-to-treat lung tumor.
