MethodsCytological observations were made of zygotes derived from crosses of wild type strains (137 mating type+ and 137 mating type--) of C. reinhardi obtained originally by Professor GM SMI'I~ in a collection from Amherst, Massachusetts. These strains have been employed in a number of genetic studies cited in the first section of this paper.
