From the non-pungent liverwort Plagiochila stephensoniana, a new verrucosane-type diterpenoid has been isolated along with 3-methoxy-4''-hydroxybibenzyl and the sesquiterpenoid spathulenol. The structure of the new diterpene, (+)-13-epi-neoverrucosan-5.beta.-ol, as elucidated by extensive 2D NMR spectroscopy was confirmed and its absolute configuration established by X-ray analysis of the p-bromobenzoyl derivative.
