Summary
Rayleigh-wave group velocities across the Azores Plateau have been determined by analysing Mid-Atlantic Ridge earthquakes recorded on Sao Miguel Island. The results show that the crust of the Plateau is about 60 per cent thicker than the surrounding oceanic crust, and that the upper mantle seismic velocities are anomalously low.
