A mild and efficient one-pot reaction for the synthesis of 1-substituted beta-carboline derivatives via the Minisci reaction has been developed with good yields and selectivity. In addition, the mechanism of the 1-substituted beta-carboline derivatives by means of the nucleophilic radical is described.
