LarvalSiganus rivulatuswere successfully hatched from eggs on four occasions. Eggs were obtained from both Mediterranean and Red Sea (the Gulf of Aqaba) specimens. On three occasions eggs were obtained and fertilized by stripping mature adults. The fourth time eggs were spawned and fertilized naturally by captive fish in a 2000-liter tank.Fertilized eggs hatched in 29–30 h. Upon hatching, the larvae were placed in various size tanks (1 to 2000 liter). The temperature and salinity were maintained at a constant level. Larvae began to feed 4–5 days after fertilization and the last survivors died after 8–9 days of free feeding. Survival of larvae was highest in the larger tanks.
