Electrophoretic patterns for 8 enzyme loci clearly distinguish 6 sibling species in the pollution indicator worm, Capitella capitata. Unlike sibling species of Drosophila, the Capitella spp. have virtually no alleles in common. Close examination revealed only slight morphological differences between species; life histories and reproductive modes are very distinct. The Capitella spp. are ideally suited for genetic and evolutionary studies.
