Several authors (eg, Huff, 1931; Boyd and Russell, 1943) have commented on the difficulty of ascertaining the male genotype in selection experiments. The following method shows how the problem may be solved.From a group of female mosquitoes which have been mated with a single male, two individuals are selected, the first susceptible to infection, the other refractory. The female offspring of each are then arranged in pairs, and a male from the susceptible parent is mated first with a pair of sister mosquitoes, then with a pair from the refractory individual.
