This study presents the stability analysis of squeal vibration on disk brakes by a surface contact analysis model. In experimental results, the sound pressure level and the frequency of squeal depend on thrust pressure. We think the cause of this phenomenon is that the stiffness of the pad depends on thrust pressure in contact region. Therefore, we propose to use the surface contact analysis model which combines a disk with a pad-caliper by distributed springs. Based on the actual squeal vibration, the disk has translational motion while the pad-caliper has both translational and rotational motions. The analytical results by this model are in good agreement with the experimental results.
