Biochemical constituents like protein, carbohydrate and lipid were estimated in different body components of the estuarine bivalve Meretrix meretrix on seasonal basis. Percentage of water content of different body fractions was less when the clams had mature gonads and also when phytoplankton was abundant. Among the body fractions, digestive diverticula recorded the highest water content as well as high percentage of biochemical constituents
