The article presents a study that investigates the role of genetic polymorphism within the vitamin K epoxide reductase gene in the response to oral anticoagulants. Results show that ethnicity is a significant factor in determining maintenance of oral anticoagulants dose requirements. It has been confirmed that changes in the vitamin K epoxide reductase gene could alter the requisites of oral anticoagulant dosage interindividually and interethnically between Chinese and Caucasians.
