[Objective]To analyze the surveillance data of KBD and the consumption of selenium salt in Xi'an from 2001 to 2008,and provide scientific basis for making control decision.[Methods]Children aged 7 to 12 were collected as samples according to monitoring project,were given clinical and X-ray examination.Household edible salts were sampled randomly for examining the concentration of selenium.[Results]3 955 children were examined by clinical and 222 early and I degree cases of KBD were confirmed,the detectable rate was 5.61% and 0.43%;2 248 children were examined by X-ray and 38 children were confirmed,the detectable rate was 1.69%.The qualified rate of selenium salt increased from 52.5% to 96.8%.[Conclusion]The prevalence of KBD in Xi'an has downward trend.The supplying of selenium was in good condition.Further surveillance should be carried out in endemic areas.A long-acting mechanism should be established for preventing and controlling Kaschin-Beck disease.
