A review of 9 references concerned with the deposition of inhaled particles within the respiratory system. In general, upper respiratory removal is essentially 100% for particles of 10u and greater. This efficiency decreases with the reduction in size of the particles, ie. 80% removal for 5[mu] particles, 60% for 4[mu], 40% for 3[mu], 10% for 2[mu], and 0% for 1[mu] and less.
