Figure 1 shows age-standardized rates (ASRs) for female breast cancer mortality (ICD-10: C50) in the 11 selected countries between 1990 and 2006. Throughout the observation period, the ASRs in three Asian countries/regions (Japan, Hong Kong and Korea) were lower than the ASRs in Western countries. Korea had the lowest ASRs among the three Asian countries/regions, and the UK had the highest ASRs among Western countries. A decreasing trend was observed for the ASR in Western countries except Russia, where the ASR increased until 2004 and decreased thereafter. In Asia, an increasing trend was observed for the ASR in Japan and Korea, whereas the ASR in Hong Kong appeared to be slowly decreasing.
