This study reports on a survey of smoking behaviors among 39 health-care professionals in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzogovina. The hypothesis that cigarette smoking would decrease as a result of an 800% price increase was not supported. Cultural, pharmacological, and psychological reasons that may have contributed to the present findings are discussed.
