In our laboratory, the red thermoluminescence (RTL) phenomena from quartz grains after exposure of radiation have been initially reported in addition to well-known blue thermoluminescence (BTL) at that time. 1,2) Subsequently, the volcanically originated and artificially burnt quartzes were found to offer generally such RTL-property. 3) In 1985, Huntleyet al. have demonstrated the radiation-induced luminescence in visible light regions from natural quartz minerals by means of stimulation of green light beam from a laser. 4) Four years later, Ḧutt et al. have discovered the radiation-induced luminescence from feldspars. 5) These thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) phenomena are known to be effective for widespread use of archaeological, quaternary geological dating, and retrospective dosimetry using sediment layers and burnt materials. 6,7)
