Briefly describes a National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism-funded clinical trial of mood management intervention for smokers who have a history of alcohol dependence and major depressive disorder that is currently under way. The aims of the study are to (a) evaluate the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy on the 12-month smoking abstinence rate,(b) examine mechanisms and processes of change associated with the smoking treatment,(c) examine the effect of the treatments on alcohol use outcomes, and (d) identify individual differences (eg, sex) associated with both smoking and alcohol use outcomes.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)
