We attempted to assess the consequence of a muscular calibrated exercise, performed in an heated environment, on a pointing task. We made the hypothesis that the physical load in heat would have a significant effect on the decisional processes (the indirect marker being the choice reaction time) and on the duration of the movement. We also took into account the evolution of some bio-energetic adaptive mechanisms (heart rate, esophageal and cutaneous temperatures). Five football and rugby players had to perform a pointing task before, during and after an effort at 50% and 80% of their aerobic maximal power of free pedaling. The results showed that the decision patterns are affected by the muscular exercise but not by the exogenous heat. It can be suggested that these observations did not reflect a breakdown of the more peripheral aspects of the execution, but rather difficulty to identify the access to the relevant component of motor program. Further, the presence of a threshold of reaction time stabilization, indicating the appearance of a new state of equilibrium, suggested that time is a controlled parameter, and not a simple artifact of the produced exertion. Though the level of steady state of reaction time was linked to the load of the work, the time location of the rupture remained almost invariant. Moreover, it is likely that we had to use a high-level regulative system, not only controlling the parameters closely related to the production of the gesture, but also some physiological variables: for instance, heart rate followed the same profile of variation than choice reaction time.
