The genus of amoebas, Flabellula Schaeffer, 1926, is shown to be inconsistent in character as originally described with the certain characters given for its type species Flabellula citata Schaeffer, 1926. The genus is emended so as to be consistent with its type species since the international rules do not permit the substitution of a new type species. Emendation of the genus thereby leaves other amoebas which are also fan-shaped in locomotion with a clear anterior-lateral border, but do not form pseudopods or uroidal filaments in locomotion, without a generic residence. Such amoebas are transferred to the genus Vannella for which a description and characterization are given. A list of amoebas belonging to the genus Vannella is also given. Vannela mira (= Flabellula mira Schaeffer, 1926) is desiggnated type species of its genus. A new vannellid amoeba is described, depicted in sketches and photomicrographs, and characterized as Vannella miroides sp. nov. It is compared to other previously described amoebas which might otherwise be confused with it, and justification is given for designating it a new species. Both the emended genus Flabellula and the genus Vannella are resident in the family Mayorellidae, order Amoebida, Class Rhizopodea, Superclass Sarcodina, Subphylum Sarcomastigophora, Phylum Protozoa. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: Author
