A major advance in polymer science in the last decade has been the development of an understanding of the morphology of crystalline polymers. The practical application of this knowledge is still very new, however the examples are increasing of control of morphology for the improvement of properties and rational design of new morphologies with special properties. This article, part of a series on hard, elastic polymeric materials (1), explores in detail a particular morphology, and discusses the distinctive and unusual macroscopic properties of these materials, properties for which a direct correlation with morphological features seems to exist.
