Data dealing with food requirements of phytoseiid mites are very scarce. The food preference of some species was studied by Collyer (1956), Dosse (1956), Herbert (1956, 1959) and Chant (1959). A more detailed study has been made by McMurtry and Scriven (1964, 1965). Their results concerning feeding, reproduction and development of phytoseiid mites on different foods were restricted to species which commonly occur in California.
