After a short introduction on the Indo-European derivative of sorted 'woman' this chapter first surveys the main points of the history of research. The sections are devoted to a more thorough discussion of the Proto-Indo-European word for 'sister', Latin uxor, Young Avestan hāirisī- ,, Cuneiform Luvian asra/i- , Young Avestan ā ŋhairī- , the Hittite and suffixes - sar- (s)sara- , and the feminine of the numerals 'three' and 'four' in Indo-Iranian and Celtic. Subsequently, in overview is provided of the nouns belonging to sor - 'woman' that can be reconstructed for Proto-Indo-European.
