The Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group showed that from 1850 to 2005, the average global temperature increased by about 0.76 degrees Celsius, and global mean sea level rose by 12 to 22 centimeters over the last century1. This authoritative report concluded that the “warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea level.”
