Dependence of microstructure, texture evolution and mechanical properties of Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy sheet on final cold rolling deformation was studied by means of tensile test, microstructure and texture characterization in this study. The results reveal that the different final cold rolling deformations have a great influence on the evolution of microstructure and texture, and final mechanical properties. Compared with the T4P treated (pre-aged at 80 °C for 12 h plus naturally aged for 14 days) alloy sheet A with a high final cold rolling deformation (75%), the T4P treated alloy sheet B with a lower final cold rolling deformation (50%) possesses almost identical strength and elongation, but a higher averagerand a lower Δrvalue. Compared with the annealed alloy sheet A, the density of finer particles in the annealed alloy sheet B is higher, which further can affect the evolution of microstructure and texture. After solution treatment, the two alloy sheets are comprised of equiaxed grains with somewhat different grain sizes, and the different textures, Goss {110}<001> and Cube {100}<001> orientations in the sheet A, while only Cube orientation with a low intensity in the sheet B. The relationship between texture andrvalue in the two alloy sheets was also analyzed by Visco-plastic self-consistent (VPSC) model.
