A method for recording drug-induced tremor in mice is described; the animals are placed in a light plastic box attached to a gramophone pick-up. The output of the pick-up was recorded on an oscilloscope. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the records is described. The patterns produced by several drugs are discussed with reference to their other pharmacological properties. Harmine and harmaline gave a sinusoidal type of tremor pattern closely resembling that of 1,4-bis(l -pyrrolidinyl) -2-1 butyne (Tremorine), but it was not accompanied by the central para-sympathetic stimulation associated with the latter compound. Aminotri -phenylpropanol produced a tremor pattern completely irregular in amplitude and frequency, resembling an exaggeration of normal movement. Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) gave a similar but less severe pattern and the tremor index was lower.
