Extended reality (XR) is a general term encompassing virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). Recently, XR technology applications have expanded into medical science. 1–6 For example, in an application in the field of hepatobiliary surgery, preoperative three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) was used to prepare holograms in advance and the surgeons wore a hologram lens that projected the hologram into the operative field while they performed the operation. Stereoscopic viewing of the position of the lesion to be resected allowed the resection line of the liver to be determined, and observation of the running of the hepatic arteries, hepatic veins, portal veins, and bile ducts. However, such a setup has not yet been applied to the simulation of trauma patient care. We, therefore, developed a model for the simulation of trauma patient care using XR technology, and this is the first report of its performance in the hybrid emergency room system (HERS) at our institution. This evaluation involved a multidisciplinary team consisting of acute care surgeons (ACSs), emergency medicine (EM) physicians, interventional radiologists (IRs), EM nurses, and radiology technicians. This report covers a pilot study of our new simulation system.
