MATERIALS AND METHODSEligible subjects were HIV-infected patients who were admitted to San Francisco General Hospital with clinically suspected PcP from August 2002 through April 2003 (8 months). Study subjects were patients who consented to study participation. Subjects were prospectively enrolled. The University of California San Francisco, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Institutional Review Boards approved the study.
