The Classical Review vol. 61 no. 1 © The Classical Association 2011; all rights reserved H. is a widely read scholar who is well in control of the relevant literature, ancient and modern. His expert treatment might at times pose a problem for less expert readers, who are expected to be familiar with a particular problem and its bibliography. But this is an elegantly written book which is a pleasure to read.
