This paper brings out a few important observations on gender based violence in Bangladesh. It reveals a high prevalence of violence against women by their husbands. Five important factors which contribute significantly in triggering violence include: not meeting the husbands expectations in managing household work sexual relationship dowry demand poverty and economic dependency of women.
