Data for 4268 men and 3810 women admitted to a Danish center, “Filadelfia,” for epilepsy from 1933 to 1962 were followed up to December 1972 or to their deaths, by means of population files and a nationwide Cancer Registry. Besides the expected excess of brain tumors, 11 cases of liver cancer occurred among patients for whom diagnoses had been made more than 10 years earlier, against an expectation of 2.1. However, eight of these had received thorium dioxide for angiography, and one had also developed leukemia. No excess of cancer was found for other sites, in particular not lymphomas or leukemias.
