Three cases which illustrate the clinical spectrum of infection with halophilic non-cholera vibrios are presented. These organisms which are widespread in marine waters cause infections sporadically. Diarrhœa is probably most common, but the diagnosis is not made because of difficulty in identifying the infecting organisms. Sepsis presumably followed tissue invasion in the gut. Soft-tissue infections may result from direct inoculation or from localisation after sepsis. Intense swelling and compromised blood-supply necessitate a combined medical and surgical approach to treatment.
