This study investigates multimode oscillations theoretically by using the averaging method in five-coupled bistable oscillators, which corresponds to van der Pol oscillator with relatively higher order nonlinearity. The multimode oscillations in the coupled one dimensional array of the oscillators are verified to correspond to various pattern formation phenomena including traveling waves.
