We constructed home-related subjective well-being (HOME-SWB) in four domains referring to the OECD’s guidelines: “home satisfaction,” “positive emotions at home,” “negative emotions at home,” and “eudaimonia derived from home.” We measured the HOME-SWB of 4,000 residents of the Tokyo area and analyzed its relationship with housing-related factors using the OLS method. The results show that each domain of HOMESWB has unique determinants. For example, the size of a home strongly affects home satisfaction, but having a nice view from the windows has a stronger effect on positive emotions, and proactive ways of living in a home enhance its eudaimonic aspects.
