Previous studies determined that theChlamydiaglycan contains a high-mannose oligosaccharide, which is involved in attachment and infectivity of the organism, and that removal of the glycan decreases infectivity in vitro. The present study demonstrates that treatment of the organism withN-glycanase decreases or ablates infectivity in vivo.
